Child trafficking and child labor prevention in north Ghana
The Upper East, Upper West, and Northern Region of Ghana are considered the poor regions of the country which make these areas particularly vulnerable to exploitation. Before many children in these regions are 12 years of age, they are trafficked to bordering countries and southern Ghana to engage in hard labor and/or sexual exploitation. It’s in the rural communities of these regions where most traffickers operate because the families have no access to information concerning these issues. The goal of the Rural Child Aid Initiative (RCAI) is to create awareness, educate families, and provide an OM Ghana Advocate Center to help these communities fight against this tragedy. The project is specifically focused on the children in Ghana who are most at risk: fatherless, suffer from family violence and abuse, lack family support, are school drop-outs, and/or those who have been trafficked. RCAI brings hope for a better future to children who are extremely vulnerable to the world of those who prey on the weak. The RCAI empowers these children by being their voice of advocacy and providing opportunities for education and vocational training.
RCAI will empower 120 of these children by being their voice of advocacy and providing counseling as well as opportunities for education and vocational training. A gift of $154 brings a year of hope for a better future to children who are extremely vulnerable to the world of those who prey on the weak.
