Teaching baking and sewing to moms in a violent community.
Your gift helps one lady in Costa Rica provide for her family.

"You provide such a wonderful break from our reality. I hope you never get tired of coming," says Candy, a young mother at OM Costa Rica's outreach to local women. Most families in this area must deal with poverty, substance abuse, the commercial sex trade, and domestic violence. Few people are willing to go out to work here because it is so dangerous. Women are particularly vulnerable. Most are child brides without any education and with few job opportunities. So what started as a women’s Bible study has now grown to include skills training to give moms a way to earn income.
OM Costa Rica has partnered with a local group to start the Pearl Process, a program to teachbaking and sewing as business opportunities. In addition to Bible lessons, business mentoring, and personal counseling, the program also offers legal assistance to those who need it.
The name comes from the symbolism and similarities between spiritual transformation and the creation of a pearl. An oyster may take on filth -- dirt or sand that it can’t get rid of -- and it causes physical pain. So it begins to coat the filth with something called nacre. The greater the filth, the greater the pain, and the more stunning the pearl! This is a process these women know well. Amidst great personal pain, many have been transformed by the love of Jesus. The Pearl Process hopes to take these women, these pearls, out of the local culture of filth and restore beauty into their lives.
Your gift of $60 will help empower the life of one of these vulnerable women and allow her to provide honorably for her family.
