One day recently we had a successful health lesson with a group of young women in a village. A woman in the group was pregnant with her first child and was shocked and intrigued to see the pictures of a developing fetus that we showed. After the lesson we gave her a booklet on pregnancy to take home to read and to pass on to her friends when she was finished with it. In this country, many women get married and become pregnant without fully understanding what is happening in their bodies. Many women tell us they’ve never been taught about maternal health, but it is important information for every woman to know! Through printed materials and lessons we are providing this valuable information. The expression that we see on women’s faces as they read and look at this pregnancy information reminds us often just how valuable this knowledge is.
In Asia pre-natal information is often not readily available in the local language and literacy rates also vary among women. Our project has developed a pre-natal care booklet with pictures and text to provide pregnancy information. Alongside the information we have been able to give training in both small and large group settings. Everyone is encouraged to share the booklet with family members and neighbors. Accurate, written pregnancy information is often hard to come by. Our project continues to develop, printing and distributing this valuable pregnancy advice and facts in the local language. Thousands of copies of this pre-natal care booklet have already been distributed to those most in need of it -- mothers, mothers-to-be and health workers -- but there are still many women to reach amongst remote villages.
Your $100 gift will provide 30 booklets.
