Around 50 ladies were served a delicious breakfast by a dozen men at the Freedom Climb breakfast in Melbourne on a cold May morning. Guest speaker Vinitha Nair shared about the anti-trafficking initiatives in South Africa that she is involved with. Women were impacted as they heard about at-risk communities, and OM’s preventative programmes like ‘traffic-proof’, and how they are changing communities in townships. They were challenged that now that they have heard about the issues, there are a number of ways that they can be a part of the solution through awareness, climbs and sponsorship.
The following day the first Melbourne Freedom Climb took place at the Thousand Steps. Rain held off as the climbers placed foot after foot up those thousand steps.
In all, almost $4,000 was raised through the two events, with half going to an at-risk school community on the Thai Burma border, and half going to the Tabitha project in Zambia.
